Character Information:

Name: Boromir

Date of Birth/Age: TA 2977 (41)

Place of Birth: Minas Tirith, Gondor

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Nationality and Current Home: Gondorian, Minas Tirith

Occupation: Captain General of Gondor, Future Steward of Gondor

Physical Appearance:
Boromir is a tall man, well recognized by his people. He has dark brown hair, which is quite long, and rarely washed unless at home in his city. He has a short beard, which he does not allow to grow long, as that would make him look too unkept.

He has sharp, sometimes stern grey eyes, that do not usually reflect his mood unless he is greatly angered.

Well-muscled, he has grown to have the build of a master swordsman, as he prefers swords to fight with over bows and arrows.

He tends to wear the usual clothing of a soldier in Gondor, though his armour is metal, since he is more often than not on the front lines in a battle, wielding his sword and shield. His breastplate has the White Tree of Gondor embellished upon it.

One of his eyes has a scar diagonally across it onto his forehead and cheek.

Abilities and Talents:

Boromir has been taught to read and write, since these are skills he will need when the time comes for him to take his father Denethor’s place as Steward of Gondor. He’d prefer talking face to face with people than reading about them.

He is a skilled swordsman, and a well-trained leader for the soldiers who follow him. He would rather not see his men dying in battle, and attempts to keep them all safe where he can.

He is also quite adept at wielding a shield, and uses his a lot on the battlefield to dodge many deadly blows.

At times he does not always think things through completely, and that can be quite troublesome in certain situations. This is not often, but it does happen.

He is not interested in poetry whatsoever, he had to try writing such as a child and well, let’s just say the results were as far from poetic as one could possibly get!

He’s very good with horses, after all the time spent in Rohan!

Personality:

Boromir has little interest in lore, and reading is not something he enjoys as a pastime, unlike Faramir. While yes, he has been taught to read and write, he would rather write when necessary, not for enjoyments sake. The same goes for reading. If its battle related, or from his father, yes, he’ll read it. If not? Well it will probably go ignored for several months as it is not one of his priorities.

Having spent time in Rohan on numerous occasions, he has come to know their ways quite well, and is even regarded quite highly by many of them, including Éomer, who is a good friend. He has always enjoyed these trips, and as he has gotten older, wishes he could return there again soon, as he has missed spending time there.

He can be quite bold, not always considering the implications of his actions before acting, though usually this is prone to occur when his emotions are greatly strengthened, such as anger, or irritation. Usually, it is Faramir who helps him calm down, as Boromir usually will listen to no one else when in such a mood.

Above all else he has a great desire to protect his people, and he is not unfaultable, he has made his fair share of mistakes when he was younger and learning to become the man he is now. That said, he can still make mistakes, but be careful if you go to chide him for them, as you’ll quickly anger him otherwise.

He loves both his parents, and losing his mother was quite the blow for him, not to mention the baby brother he remembers but has not encountered again since he went missing.

Life History (so far):

Boromir has led quite the easy childhood, at least until he was six years old. His parents, Denethor and Finduillas both loved and cared for him, and his mother taught him to read and write. He remembers her singing to him sometimes too, something his father has never done, as he never considered it a worthwhile pastime.

When he was six, his mother gave him a new born brother, whom Boromir was very happy to have, since he had always wanted a brother. Unfortunately, not long after the boy’s birth, he went missing, and was assumed dead after a few days, when the city guards failed to find the baby.

It was around this time that a certain Thorongil came to Gondor and helped protect its borders, which Boromir greatly admired, and often asked for stories, which he got. His father did not like the fact that Boromir was spending so much time with the man, and forbade it. This was one of the only times when Boromir would ignore the fact that he wasn’t allowed to see someone, he thought that unfair, and would sometimes sneak out to see him, on the rare occasions Thorongil was in the city after some random battle.

Alas, Thorongil soon vanished without a trace, or a goodbye and this saddened Boromir considerably. He missed the man who had become quite the hero in Boromir’s eyes. His grandfather was disappointed that Thorongil had left, but Denethor on the other hand was pleased, and Boromir found this strange. What reason could his father have to be pleased that such a mighty warrior had vanished from Gondor? Of course, a child of his age could hardly be expected to understand, and Denethor never explained it to him.

When he was ten years old, tragedy struck. His mother had fallen ill, and his father spent hours alone in his tower. Boromir hoped that the healers could save his mother, but alas it was not to be. When she passed, Boromir had gone to sleep for the night, but he had at least seen her one last time that day beforehand.

Denethor became even more reclusive and harsher toward his people, he said he was protecting them, but by doing what? Moping in a tower? Boromir knew he had to do something, and he knew what that would be.

Only one good thing was there in his life as a child after that. A friend he had made, in the citadel, a boy not much younger than himself, whom he’d seen wandering from time to time in the halls. Since the boy could give no name for himself, Boromir gave him one, Faramir. He quite enjoyed the other’s company too when he visited the citadel.

Soon after his mother passed away, and as soon as he was of an age acceptable, he started training to become a soldier in the army, and by the time he had reached the age of 25 had risen fast through the ranks, due to his sharp mind and courage.

The scar he has on his face is from an orc that managed to get him by surprise when he was younger with what seemed to be a Gondorion knife it had thrown at him. He was only younger at the time, and certainly not as competent as he is now, perhaps around nineteen years old.

The men began to follow him trusting him with their lives, once he had proven himself in battle.

When he was 27, a younger man had been arrested for murder, poaching and stealing. Hearing that they were to be executed, he stepped in. He demanded to know what was going on, and what evidence there was against the younger man. When he found out who it was, none other than his childhood friend Faramir, Boromir became even angrier, and when no other evidence that could truly convict his friend was found, he did not allow them to kill him.

He had men search for the true murderer, but no one ever found them, and since he did not trust the city guards with his friend’s safety, Boromir decided then and there to take him in. He made Faramir one of his soldiers, and said he was Boromir’s own responsibility, anyone with issues regarding Faramir was to come directly to him and he would sort it out!

He was well pleased with Faramir’s progress and has come to rely on him on many occasions, much to his father’s suspicions at times. When Denethor sent Boromir to Imladris but forbade him to take Faramir, Boromir told Faramir anyway, and made a plan in secret to have Faramir join him that night after he left.

And so it was that Boromir left Gondor for one of the elven realms, on a task he did not think was worth his time.

Important Changes Compared to Canon:
1 – Not aware that Faramir is actually his half brother. Changes in biography to include this.
2 – Has a sword and shield, but the dagger he had in the films is not amongst his weapons.
3 – Seems Thorongil (Aragorn) was longer in Gondor than in normal canon!
